Orthodontic without braces
If you have misaligned or crooked teeth and want to have a beautiful smile, orthodontic treatment is the best choice for you. There are different options for orthodontic treatment including traditional metal brace or some other new options such as a ceramic brace, lingual (inside) brace and clear aligners. So, you can choose a traditional brace or orthodontic without braces.
This type of brace is less noticeable than traditional metal brace. The brackets of ceramic braces are clear or tooth-colored as well as optional tooth-colored wires. Ceramic braces are a common choice among adults because it is less visible and also provide the same results as a traditional brace at the same time. Ceramic braces are also one of the most effective techniques for straightening teeth.
Lingual (inside) braces
They are custom-made braces that are completely invisible because they attach to the inside surface of the teeth instead of the front. Since lingual braces are placed near the tongue, they may get wear and even impact on speech and eating compare to the traditional braces for a short time.
It is a good option for people especially adults who don’t like others to understand they have braces. The work of ligula braces is also the same as the traditional braces.
They are removable aligners that are proper for less severe orthodontic problems. Clear plastic aligners are not usable for all patients. Since there are fewer materials on the teeth and no wires with clear aligners, they are much more comfortable than traditional braces. They are also easier to clean and brush compare to the brace because they can be removed when you are eating and brushing.
They are another option for straightening teeth called plates. These removable plates only can provide limited correction so they are not a proper alternative for braces and aligners.
Removable appliances are the proper option for correcting simple problems for children who still have baby teeth, it can be considered as the primary stage of treatment. When their permanent teeth come out they can apply for a brace as the second treatment option.
Traditional metal braces
They are the most common types of braces especially for kids and teenagers because the cost of this type of brace is more reasonable compared to the other types. This type of treatment contains small brackets that attach to the teeth and then connect with thin wire in order to move teeth to the proper position and correct the bite problems. There are also some modern metal braces which are more comfortable than before. If you need extensive treatment, the metal brace is the most effective option.
There are two types of the retainer, fixed retainers and Hawley retainers which are removable retainers. Fixed retainers attach to the inner surface of the teeth with dental cement in order to prevent moving teeth over time. Fixed retainers correct the patient’s bite and also straight teeth. But Hawley retainers are made from metal wires and acrylic which are formed to the shape of patients’ mouths. These retainers can be applied for both upper and lower arches and straight teeth.
Who is the right candidate for orthodontics without braces?
Depending on your specific condition, you can straighten your teeth and have a beautiful smile with orthodontic without braces. There are some problems which are correctable without braces including:
- Limited overcrowding. Patients whose teeth are slightly crooked because of the minor overcrowding can use retainers instead of braces.
- Malocclusion. If your bite is out of alignment you can adjust your jaw position with orthodontic appliances.
- Underdeveloped palate or narrow the upper jaw. You can wide your palate with expanders, so it will provide enough space for your teeth to move into the proper position.
